A. Terminal Ports

MAINEDIT allows you to use a screen other than the one where you invoked MAINSAIL for your edit session. The motivation for this feature is to allow users who have applications that use display modules to debug those applications with the display debugger. The application program can run on one screen and the debug session on another.

As described in Section 1.8.2 of the MAINEDIT User's Guide, when you invoke MAINEDIT and end the display module name with a comma, editor prompts for a terminal port (and a baud rate). The editing session takes place on the current display if no terminal port is specified; otherwise, it tries to use the specified port (port names are operating-system-specific, and terminal ports may not work on some operating systems).

On UNIX, if you do want to run on another display, specify the display file name (e.g., something like /dev/ttya) as the terminal port.
